Pennsylvania Dutch Food

In the 1700s and 1800s, German immigrants settled in southeastern and southcentral Pennsylvania. The Pennsylvania Dutch (Pennsylvania German or Pennsylvania Deutsch) have traditional sayings ("outen the lights") and food that demonstrated their creativity with what they had available. These foods are very hearty to meet the dietary needs of laborers. Today, these foods are a tradition found amongst families that originated in Pennsylvania.
